The Blue Hole

Postby beachbum » Sun Jan 25, 2015 4:39 pm

There was an interesting article in the local paper today about this location in southern NJ not too far from where I live. Most of the article is about the watering hole, which is dangerous, but the article does mention of the surrounding quicksand in the area. I've heard from a few locals about how their vehicles were stuck in deep mud and quicksand. There is also a book called the Tracker taking place right around the blue hole which is a true story and mentions at one part how the person was stuck in quicksand. Would be a curious place to visit and check out over the summer. For now though, we are bracing for a snowstorm, and will just have to be patient.

Quicksand and the Jersey devil in one spot? Sign me up! In folklore treacherous places are often linked to the supernatural.

There is a lot of gravel pits nearby so yes there looks to be some quicksand in the area form the maps looking down . Marcus

I know there are gravel pits there. I'm really looking forward to go exploring out there this summer!

I know exactly where that is!

A friend of mine got his bike stuck in quicksand exploring there.

So that's where Jimmy Hoffa is...

Sorry. New Jersey, isolated bottomless hole, yeah. I can tell you what that thing is full of.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I have heard plenty of stories of mud/quicksand out there. Most times, it is with people and their ATVs. NJ being by the water with many bays and different types of terrain has lots of mud/quicksand that I think is unknown.. I look forward to exploring. I know some day the weather will get warmer.

Look forward to hearing about your future expedition! I have been told there are some amazing quarries and other areas of quicksand in New Jersey. The sugar sand sounds just the ticket. Would love to experience that one day!
