ask.com for me. Anybody remember Jeeves, as in "Ask Jeeves"?

It was a grand day when we switched from AOL to EarthLink, and EarthLink support helped me figure out why my connection sucked. (Needed a new modem string.) All of a sudden, I had 28.8k first try, every time, with the same hardware. Glorious speed!

Who else remembers the first time they typed "quicksand" into a search engine?

Me! :D 1998. That engine was Netscape. What a wonderous time that was. :D

Why ask Jeeves? You have to blow his head off before he will answer anything.

Oh, wait. That was Jeebs. 8-)

Before internet trolls, yes. Trolls, on the other hand, are nothing new. There is a well-known and very true story, for example, involving at least one item published in a newspaper as a letter to the editor and signed by "Rebecca" that is pretty much an example of trolling, in that case for political purposes. The letter resulted in a duel that was only called off when both parties had reached the chosen dueling site. "The year was 1842 and "Rebecca was actually Abraham Lincoln.
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 13 different producers. Info may be found at:

Yes, Netscape had their own search engine but I, and I think many others, quickly left it for Yahoo or my favorite, Alta Vista. Alta Vista was the stuff until Google hit full stride. It also had a usenet search which was handy for running down all the 64k pieces of photos we had to download and assemble to get a single qs image.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I remember GeoCities, Where Kaol originally hosted his O'l Sinking Hole, which used to be 'it' as far as QS content was concerned... Gosh, I remember browsing the old Stories page at MCTI way back in 2001/02... :ugeek:

And here is the archived Kaol's Ol' Sinkin' Hole website:

And speaking of stories, here is Black Squirrel's site:

I remember using Mosaic and Netscape at college and university, and then using IBrowse for Amiga (I have since been using Firefox on iMac for years now) at home in late '97 when I finally got my own home internet account. I used all the various search engines to find stuff, because some would turn up sites others wouldn't. I also used some sites that did the same search on multiple search engines at once.

I won't forget the fateful evening in December of '97, when, after doing searches for "tarpits", I finally entered "quicksand" in a search engine, and was blown away by what came up! After that, I was up and online until around 2 AM or even later for over a week or so!
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

(((ioi)))
