Charlie Chaplin in deep mud

Postby bfc796 » Fri Nov 01, 2013 2:02 am

I watched The Great Dictator (1940) yesterday, and was surprised by the scene at 0:13:30, after the plane crashes in a field. There was a similar visual gag in One of Our Dinosuars is Missing, where the 'but I'm not a spy!' character parachutes in rice paddy field (later a Chinese hat is removed from the surface by a local, revealing just his face - or something like that; it's been a while since I saw it last). The scene with Chaplin is more authentic, though - hats off to him (also for the rousing speech at the end of the film). 73 years ago!
