Destroyers in 1942 had a hard time with that. Don't get too ambitious...
** In Naval Wargaming? DD's are considered to be unarmoured, all armour 1" or less -- but penetration factors assume 1" for passthough probabilities. Most naval shells will swiss cheese a DD. And 5''/38 would punch holes in BB armour at point blank range. Maybe not Yamato, but most others. Really, armour now is not a big a deal as it was 60 years ago. Steel better than aluminum though

I still say they need a nuke plant. Can't be much more expensive than having to follow the thing around with a fuel tender and the tactical advantage would make up for the difference.

The technology for compact, safer and less expensive reactors has been around since at least 1970. Can't explode, can't melt down. And when they need refueling, that could be done in a matter of hours instead of months in drydock. A CVN could possibly be fitted out with a reprocessing plant, which would keep its own reactors in continuous operation for the life of the hull, and allow replenishment of support ships and subs.

Re: Your LCS Callsign is "Grinch"
I just don't like the idea of a speedboat with a couple of 50 cals with AP being able to cripple a US warship. Armor has gone high tech, too- tank armor is now made of composites, and effectiveness is measured in the equivalent inches of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA.) And yes, the 30mm autocannon on a BMP or BTR will tear up an Abrams at point blank range also.
But to my point, for the money we're spending, we damn well should be getting ships that can withstand small arms fire and RPGs. That's what the LCS is supposed to go up against, right? Pirates and terrorists?

The solution is not necessarily weapons systems, it's ROE
Simply vaporizing and exterminating them before they get close is the simplest solution. Aimed-5-inch turns them into chunky fish food and fiberglass. And you ignore ALL leftard fucking screams. They the enemy. They DIE
That's it
