You can read about it, along with a fairly complete history of nuclear weapons , deployment and security throughout the Cold War
"Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety" which is available at any number of places and formats. It's fairly technical stuff, and mentioned before.
These, show the sites scattered around Arkansas, and the Nukemap shots showing some effects. Casualties would be fairly low. Until fallout starts happening, then it would get unpleasant. The map for weapon effects does not consider terrain, *I think. But the Thermal Pulse would incinerate everything inside the orange circle. Adios, Clinton.
