Because nothing was said about that in the script.


There was, but I think Marcia Lucas edited it out, pointing out the final battle was becoming overly complex, and keeping it the simpler the better was much easier to shoot-and tell. Same thing with Luke originally having 2 attack runs, one on computer which missed, then the final one. Plus, they needed to shave the time down some.
As finished, It worked just fine
