Farewell to the USS Enterprise

Postby kham » Sun Feb 05, 2017 7:40 pm

This was originally posted a few days ago over at Bring the Heat, but still valid:

So, as I write this, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, is being formally decommissioned, and will be struck from the rolls of the Naval Vessel Register.

As long as I have been alive, there has always been a USS Enterprise as a part of the fleet.

Indeed, the day I was born, my father was aboard her undergoing workups for a deployment to Vietnam.

Fair winds, Big E.

Whether it is actual Naval History, or science fiction literature, you will never forget the name !

From "Valley Of Mystery" : Don't struggle and do not thrash around; that just makes things worse!

Sad to see it go......but progress.
If I had Bill Gates level money I'd convince them to sell it to me as surplus. Do a few conversions and you have yourself a party barge with luxury accomodations for you and a few thousand of your closest friends lol.
