Not how I was hoping it would turn out...suggestions?

Yeah, that's actually not a bad attempt at all, dude. Pretty decent since, I'm assuming, you did it from several different pieces.
I can think of a few suggestions since you asked. :)

1. Her bottom half looks a little small in proportion compared to her top half. Maybe shrink the top a little or enlarge the bottom.
2. Assuming you're using Photoshop or something similar, you might try using the 'Liquefy' tool on the mud immediately surrounding her legs and hips to give it a downward-sinking appearance.
3. Maybe consider making the final image all black-and-white for a more uniform, natural look.

That's about all I can think of, really. I hope it's helpful. :)
I've been trying to do this sort of under-the-surface type scenario in Poser for a while now but without any convincing results.
Yours really is a nice attempt. Better than many I've seen. Good job and thank you! :D
