Dunno if this might be relevant or not:

First, I am not sure of the form that private message notifications take. Are they sent in an email to the user's registered address or do they go as a pop-up? In the user control panel there are two settings that appear to apply. One is "notify me on private messages" and the other is "popup window on private messages." The second is pretty clear and it should be obvious that a popup blocker would, or should, prevent a message from arriving. The first, however, is more ambiguous. I would assume, probably at my peril, that this implies the notifications go by email as this setting would appear to be unnecessary otherwise.

The notification goes to the recipient's email address, which is in this format:

From admin1@quicksandfans.com
Subject New private message has arrived
To Me


Hello ********,

You have received a new private message from "*******" to your account on
"Quicksand Fans" with the following subject:

****************************

You can view your new message by clicking on the following link:

http://www.quicksa.....................................

You have requested that you be notified on this event, remember that you
can always choose not to be notified of new messages by changing the
appropriate setting in your profile.
