You have right about the footprints, but I think the terrain is clay.
And about the red planet, I think it's not a red sky.
I think the red thing is a peace of the photographer's hand or finger.

Yea, that's a finger. The photographer that took that can shoot the broad side of a barn....if he's inside the barn.
I actually forgot I posted those background shots. Nice to see someone put them to good use despite the crappy photography.
