Seems like that Mississippi-Missori Mud is the one you realllly need to be careful about!!
Tarzan to Jill Hardy: Girl be still. Not sink!!"
From "Valley Of Mystery" : Don't struggle and do not thrash around; that just makes things worse!

Re: Low Water Levels.....Warnings........
My life does not really offer me many sinking opportunities, but I managed to swing by a place I thought could have exposed some lake bottom. Despite being at a public park, this place was mostly deserted on the middle of a beautiful day. I knew I could not get my shoes very muddy, but still dared to walk back and forth on the lakebed for a while and experience the thrill of soft, unstable mud beneath my feet. It was very much like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLkh6otDgH0, except maybe a little less sinky. Then again, I was trying my hardest to step lightly and NOT sink, despite the dangerous terrain! It was fun trying step lightly enough to not get my shoes dirty. I still find myself wishing I could return to this place and explore the whole area... there was just SO MUCH cracked, unstable clay exposed!
I have always seen many stories on these forums about quicksand along the Mississippi, so am sure there is probably tons of that stuff exposed right now.
