 A most clever way to describe the indoctrination process Fred.

Or just some silly wordplay.

It's impossible for us old farts to fathom what that would be like.

But on the other hand, it was the rabid 'collector' in me that found a way to make the stuff we wanted to see. In other words, there was a direct line from reading the TV Guide cover to cover weekly and rummaging video rental stores - to digging a hole in the ground. That dynamic was a trait of guys my age - for better or worse.

Funny enough if I may add, there isn't any open sharing love of quicksand in the Second Life subforum for one instance of extinction. Not much member submissions there, stories, drawings, home videos.

I see there are not much activity here on this forum. Looks more like the huge regular Commons qs artists & members moved to private servers on Discord.

I think the process is at a stage of relaxation and retirement.
A slow decline into obscurity.

And then, a re-invention and rediscovery.
A period of growth and probably mainstream resurgence.

So while it may appear as extinction, it is the same cycle of interest that has existed since the early Bronze Age.
Or possibly Stone Age, but somebody forget to write it down.

I think that it's too easy for the newer members to completely fail to realize that we are on the backside of significant social engagement in this community (and for content production as well). But that doesn't mean that we didn't do well. We did.

I recently took in a couple really good music related documentaries. One was about the Wrecking Crew, and the other about Muscle Shoals. Here are the links; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwiTas70pAo and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKmGUIM1uAI In both cases, there was discussion about how things went into decline after they peaked. In both case, they were older men and women that were at peace with how things went down. They had a good run and they knew it.

I feel that way about the Quicksand Community as well as the production side of things.

So while folks might look at the state of things now and see failure, that's their problem. It's one of perspective. And in the current mindset of anyone not being on top having to be a 'loser', I doubt that many minds are going to be changed - until they have a good run of their own, if they are lucky enough.

Every generation thinks the newer generation is not much good. And historically they are almost always wrong. We no longer live in caves. Not most of us anyway. As for production, whether that means of quicksand scenes, kinds of technology, kinds of business, kinds of weapons, or whatever, that goes on. Speaking only for myself, I shot 81 scenes this summer and expect to do more next summer.

Rates of community engagement and rates of Quicksand Video production are way down from their peak.

This thread was about Quicksand Fans and the community at large, not individuals.

Also, nobody wrote anything disparaging about the newer generations. It's wrong to offer that impression.

I definitely don't think the kink is dying, but the community is definitely moving in a different direction.

A lot of stuff has moved either to social media, like twitter (which is notoriously poor for discoverability) or Discord servers (which are part of the ungoogleable deepweb). So your methods of discovering new content may need to change. I also think that the traditional "pay per view" porn model (which seems really common across WAM / sinking stuff for some reason?) is being superseded by subscription based platforms such as Patreon and OnlyFans. I haven't really seen many quicksand producers on these platforms though, and I'm kinda wondering when they're going to make the leap.

There also seems to be a decent amount of muddy content (and WAM stuff in general) coming out of Japan and China right now. I don't speak either of those languages though so again finding that content is pretty difficult.
