Re: Deep sinking / submerging
If you don't want to lose your life, you must become an expert at getting up and out. There are some experts who have learned how to handle sinky stuff and keep themsevles out of real danger. I am a person who has never had the chance to go deepr than ankle deep so I cant help you... but I would use large sheets of plastic to distribute the press of my hands down to work myself out and gradually crawl onto. Some kinds of sinky substance may allow a rope to be enough. But what I sense to be fact is this: the harder it is to work yourself deeper, the harder it will be to work yourself back out.

Copied from your other thread (excluding the Mayo )

There are places, though, that can become dangerous when you want too much, too fast. The bog i frequently visit is a mixture of thicker and thinner layers of mud/peat and when it's dry weather you can quite smoothly sink as deep as you dare (I never found a bottom!) with only little struggling. Problem is that you don't plop back up to the surface as the mud is just thick enough to hold you in place, so you have to struggle to get up, too. You have to keep calm and do the right moves slow and careful, otherwise you will drive yourself even deeper in. I sank right up to the tip of my snorkel and/or my outstretched hands without even noticing it a few times
I'm already chindeep in this mudbog and every desperate attempt to move my stuck legs only drives me deeper in. The thick mud slowly swamps my waders and my arms have nothing to hold onto.

It's somewhat uncommon to be able to sink vertically. If you want something that feels like mud and not muddy water, it's usually too dense. Most submergence is achieved by the person lying down somewhat in the mud. With that, you can go under.

That's not what he wrote.
Meanwhile, here's one guy that definitely submerges vertically in tidal mud - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15891&p=130324#p130324

Of course you can...
This forum is full of advice, stories and even photos from real sinkers who are doing exactly this. Have you read my post?
