One common thing alot of us seem to share is the "I thought I was the only one" mentality.

I'll simply say, fetishes in general seem to be a result of delayed sexuality in more "advanced" cultures, they are almost unknown in "primitive" societies. Fetishism is very uncommon in females. Fetishes do not respond well to treatment as they become intermixed with a person's core sexuality. They are often associated with obsessive/compulsive fixed behavior. This behavior can be managed to some extent, however, the fetish will usually remain. Fetish is considered an archaic term, the modern term is something like fixed behavior module or some such.

Normal is such a relative term I hesitate to use it...

Becoming homosexual would eliminate females from your thoughts. But there's really not going to be that much difference in how you feel and perhaps, not even much in what you do. You would just be attracted to different people than you are now and when you have sex, your partner would look different.

You could have just as much sex, though, and if you became really and truly gay, there is no reason you wouldn't enjoy it every bit as much.

There is an alternative.

A 100% permanent cure for fetishizing females would be to eliminate the sex drive entirely. You could become completely asexual.

This makes sense to me. I reacted to a scene when I was only three. Since it is flatly impossible for me to have experienced the real thing at that age, it is not possible for actual quicksand to be the trigger.

If I ever have scads of money to just throw away, I would like to visit a hypnotist, who will age-regress me back far enough to discover what those developmental factors were, and what the random object was that somehow caused a sudden erotic reaction inside me when I saw that quicksand scene on Saturday morning when I was three years old.

The scary thing? I don't recall being surprised when I reacted to that scene.

I can only speak from personal experience, since I've never encountered or shared a discussion on fetishism with any of my friends or family.
But I believe my own quicksand fetishism comes from a feeling of peril.

The French quite famously tied sex and death together. The French word for orgasm translates to "a little death", or something like that. If sex is the creation of life and death is the end of it, then the 2 share a very close relationship. It's no wonder that some people (probably more than we think) have peril/life threatening events connected to their sexual tastes - it's just how they manifest. For me that is restriction... such as quicksand, snakes. For others that might be self asphyxiation, breath control, BDSM, rape fantasy.
I believe that if you have the possibility of having these thoughts, that either one of those above mentioned (+ any others I don't know of) fetishes will manifest and grow. Which I imagine is why people say "Oh I've liked quicksand since I was a child".

And it's perfectly normal and part of how the human mind matures. The brain records those early emotions from events as a kid, and as you get older they're associated with fun times. But as we get older our expression of those emotions evolves into sex. It's the same reason why people may prefer blondes, asian chicks, burly hairy men, motorbikes or all 4. At once. Whilst gagged.


AND regarding women and fetishes! Of course women do. Any human brain is capable of it. Every girlfriend I've had (just a small number mind you. I prefer long term!) has had at least 1 fetish. They just keep them quiet or don't even realise what they are. Girlfriend number;
