A Letter from the Past

I found this letter while going through the archives, a piece of correspondence from the late, great Chuck Lang.

Yea, that sounds like Chuck.

It pulls a bit on the rope of reality, but it goes down smooth!

Chuck was a true "groundbreaking" pioneer (pun intended) to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude.

It was nice to read a letter from the past from the late, great, Chuck Lang. The sinking situation sounds very familiar, making me wonder if the area they were in was the Turkey Bayou.

I vaguely remember Chuck mentioning that incident during one of my visits. Such mud is not common but I've certainly been in such as that myself so I tend to think he wasn't adding all that much to the story. Chuch was actually quite reserved about most of his adventures and, as best I can tell, cut it pretty straight when describing them.

I know he lost a Harley in river quicksand up around Wall, South Dakota. He showed me some videos I've never seen published elsewhere that pretty much establish a lot of what I've heard attributed to him.

I'll always remember his comment that what he really like about Chester, Illinois, was that he was "a big fish in a small goldfish bowl"!...

I've been to Chester. Not with Chuck, with Kaol, but we stayed in the Reid Hotel and we hit the slurry pond together to see if filming conditions were good...I saw the famed blackish-purple, sandy, gritty guck of yesteryear where sank Ann, Kristine and PamelaRose and I swam in that pond with the stump on the right side.

Not much to Chester all righty. It was the "home of Popeye", though.
