I don't recall when I did my first quicksand artwork. I know I really didn't get into it until a few years ago. Like Nessie, Kaol was my inspiration. I never realized just how many people out there were into this sort of thing. I was also inspired by Acid Tester. His "Preppy in Quicksand" drawing was the inspiration for my series, "A Co-ed in Quicksand." That led to "Theme Park Guides in Quicksand."

Don't ask me why, but I've always had this "thing" for women in white knee socks.

I've always been a cartoon and comic book fan. Looking at some of the photo stories on Mud Puddle Visuals, I began to realize I could draw the sort of quicksand scenes I had dreamed about seeing. I can honestly say that, if I hadn't come across the works of Kaol, AT, and Dave, I probably would've considered myself weird and would not have tried making quicksand art. I've found there are a lot of creative people out there who also have an interest in quicksand.

I wish I had more time for my artwork. My boss seems to think I can do the work of three people. At least he claims the current economy means I have to do that. I'd clone myself, but he'd only want to pay one of me. Besides, the thought of two of me running around in scary!

I was 13, in 1988.
I'm pretty sure the first victim I ever put in quicksand had to be Scarlett from G.I.Joe.
Around the same time I was just starting to try to copy Iron Maiden's album covers, and that's when I first really began drawing.
I'm sure the drawings weren't good, and they're long, long gone by now.
Like many, I kept them hidden in an adidas box in my attic.
No one had ever seen a single drawing (as far as I know) until 1999.
In college I first began exploring the Internet, and of course promptly looked up "quicksand".
I remember Kaol's site, Pete Boggs' jungle Janet, and a few others.
I was elated to find such a community of quicksand enthusiasts.
Up till then I thought I was alone in my fascination.
The first time I posted any sort of quicksand artwork anywhere was in late 1999, it was a sloppy drawing of Supergirl waist deep in quicksand laced with kryptonite.
I still keep it mostly a secret, although my Breath Taking comic was actually the last project I completed in grad school. That's about the only time people in the real world have seen a glimpse of my perversion.
My closest friends and ex-wife know about Acidtester and what he's all about, and I think it'll probably stay that way.

Twelvish-thirteenish, which makes it the 1970s. A HUGE outpouring in high school, not so much in the decades after.
