Salton Sea Mud Pots Update

Finally got to visit the "old" mudpots at the corner of Schrimpf Road and Wister Road just east of the Salton Sea. Can confirm that the mud pots are not particularly warm and that there are a couple of places deep enough to play in. There was even a little wash up water. Mud was silty and fine to the feel yet does not seem to have much clay in it. Wasn't quite up to what I'm used to so I opted to not get in.

What has not been brought out in most of the photos I've seen is how close some sort of hydrothermal business is to the east of the mud pots, like less than 100 yards. They've dug a ditch around to keep folks from driving out the remaining 25 yards to the mud pots from the road but my Jeep could readily have managed to get past the ditch had I wished to. Just park on the road, there's room. Didn't see any of the no trespassing signs that some folks have reported but might have seen where they had been taken down.

Also tried to visit the "new" mud pots down the Alamo River a half mile to the northwest but it had rained recently and even though I had the Jeep in 4-wheel low with mud terrain tires, I had to turn back as the mud got eventually got too deep. Could have walked the remaining mile or less but the mud was lake bottom mud and not really fun to be in. Also, it was too far to drag my kayak as I figured it was likely something like that would be need to actually get to the "new" mud pots. Incidently, some of them are certain to be very hot, I found a recent scientific paper on 'em with lots of detail.
