Re: Any Daz3d/ Poser users out there
I will be particularly interested in ideas (or questions) related to the mixing of media. I tried Poser a long while ago and could not really figure it out - I think the computer I had then may have been too slow.
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 20 different producers. Info may be found at:

Re: Any Daz3d/ Poser users out there
I've been using Poser since Poser v3 back in 1999, and its been a long slow slog to figure stuff out, and there's still a lot I don't know, but I've managed to learn a few things.
I've using other programs such as Adobe Premier, Photoshop, Aftereffects, to do a lot of mixing of different media from different sources. If you have any questions Fred, I'd be glad to share what I know.
Cheers!

I gave up on Poser a long tie ago. The CD of it that I have probably would not even install anymore. By "mixed media" I meant things like making one product from two or more different KINDS of original material, such as video and hand-drawn art.

I know there is a lot we could discuss about technique, modeling, which models to use, lighting, postwork, etc. In the past in a prior group we had a writers workshop that I think helped, so maybe something like that for us might also be good?
I'm thinking maybe we should start some threads over at the Quicksandland site (http://quicksandland.com/).
Sounds like a good idea. I know I've got plenty to learn still about Poser and other programs so I went ahead and registered over there.

I downloaded Daz a few days ago.
I am suspecting that they give you just enough to get started, and you have to buy more characters and accessories and stuff. My girl model has about three kinds of hair she can wear and a very limited wardrobe.
Heads up, though, for anybody who draws with pens and pencils. They may not have hair or clothes but they can be rotated, posed, and viewed from any angle. I got a feeling that's going to end up being what I do with this!
I was hoping I could draw 3-D landscapes with this but I haven't gotten very far!

Hey Nessie,
If you want to create your own landscapes, DAZ has a piece of software called Bryce.

It's only 20 dollars and I've used it to create some of the hills and QS pits that I've used over the years.
Good Luck,

An option, perhaps and for only some kinds of projects, could be to use a 2D photograph as a background with the DAZ 3D model in front of a greenscreen.

That's a good way to start. It allows you to get more familiar with the posing process, focusing mostly on just the model and not having to worry about building a set around her/him until you're ready to branch out. And, at the same time, you'll still be creating art. It's how I got started with Poser (you may or may not remember "Crashed"
I can't really speak knowledgeably about DAZ Studio yet, having never tried it, but I can say that, with Poser, a certain amount of set-building is possible but not to the extent that you'll get with Bryce or similar programs.
One drawback to Poser though is that the latest DAZ human models (which really are the best out there, it seems) are not very compatible with it thanks to the rift between DAZ and Smith Micro (Poser's creator). The newest generation - the Genesis 3 figures - aren't compatible at all, though a few hacks have been tried. Victoria 4 and Michael 4 were the last fully compatible figures and they're about 8 years old now.
Making a decision between the latest versions of Poser and DAZ Studio is something I'm not looking forward to after I get a new PC.
