Well, it won't discourage everyone from pursuing it, but it will discourage most, as it should.
I didn't have the cash in 1998 either. I stood in front of a couple bank tellers, sweating balls inside, and advanced $8,000 cash against credit cards. Did pretty much the same thing in 2000, 2002, 2004.... In fact, I did something similar every year until late 2009, when the banks told me and the rest of Small Business America that there was no more doing business that way. Some of that debt is still around.

You did lend good advice for hobbyists/enthusiasts. The term Producer can be looked at in several different ways though, and since the OP was largely concerned about legalities, it's fairly easy to presume he meant something else.
So, if Producer means a sustainable, and eventually profitable endeavor, then MudBunny has the good information to follow, and Duncan is the voice that should be ringing in the ears.
