Interesting thought - I never really considered the credit issue, since my name was on the image, and I share my edited photos freely.

In this case, I'd call it a win-win since it's an eye-catching photo and with your watermark on it, people may be inclined to search for you. I tried it and got some awesome results of stuff that I didn't know you did.

But, yeah, it's true, they're supposed to ask first. If you wanted to be a meanie about it you could raise a stink, like I have when I've been surprised at where my work ended up...but methinks, in this case...I wouldn't.

I'm sure that's brilliant for you as at least they kept your credit on but after reading about mainstream news sites using images sourced off the internet and not crediting or paying the owners, were they not supposed to ask your permission or offer some payment for its usage first?

I agree. Legally they ARE supposed to ask consent before use because it is technically intellectual property. Huff post often does opeds which consist of rookies and inspiring journalists who may not know better (or do and just want to make thier quota).

Otherwise, congrats! A good thing to see your good hard work drift into the mainstream!

If it was simply embedded in the article, that would be one thing. But if it was used as click bait, I would probably do something about it. A considerable portion of online 'journalism' is paid by clicks. Using the image to promote the article would tie the use directly to profit.

I get it. You pick your battles and that is a very good point worth noting. Waste time and money over an embedded photo that would cost you more in litigation or just leave it alone. That makes sense.
