I have an odd suggestion: Add more clay (being careful to try and match color) on top of the mud you wish to use.

Why? It will thicken that mud and add a sticky top layer to it. Add enough and you'd be able to walk out onto a surface that would be fairly dry at first, but then allow someone to sink though. About the biggest problems are that it won't be easy to carry it to the mud if the mud is far from solid ground, and that this will make it harder to get down and back out again. (I think it will make the sink more fun though)

Just my 2 cents worth! I wish I was likely to be able to come sink for you, but if I have time, it will mean I won't have the money to get there. (And if I'm working a job that pays enough for me to get there, odds are I won't have time) I'm not the sort of person many people would want to see sinking just yet. (male, 5'11", pushing 50 years old and 250 lbs) However, I'm down 15 lbs since this time last month, and if I get back into the postal service, I'm likely to be down another 40 lbs in 6 months.

Wonder how the wildlife management area would feel about actually altering the environment! I guess I am allowed to cut down the poison sumac branches, for you are allowed to cut brush to create cover for your hunting blind, but adding clay to the edge of the lake?

Not that they'd know. It's hard to get in there! I'd have to buy the clay, though. And since I may or may NOT have an assistant (who isn't going to be much of a heavy lifter anyway) yeah, I wonder how the model will feel about starting her day helping with the heavy lifting?

The casting call is an attempt to reach local female models.

I've given serious thought to a male version, though. I have definitely heard that we need more guy stuff from people who want it...unfortunately, that is just a handful of people. If there's a silent crowd out there somewhere, so far I have not located them!

So far, I've had male mud partners as non-models and the playtime has been off-camera!
