Re: Wlling Sink and Submergence
As I've said elsewhere, what's critical to me is the submergence. I get a great deal of pleasure out of people seeking that end, just as I do about people fighting against it. All of your scenarios hold attraction for me, so long as they end with the victim going under. And, sure, I could add a few specifics, but the point is always the same with me. However they end up in the quicksand, whatever they think about being in the quicksand, whatever emotional arc they travel while going down in the quicksand, I'm only happy if they go under.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I guess that's three of us then. Botany Final was the rare scene that didn't end in submergence that works very well for me.
Given the trials and tortures that some people put themselves through in the name of sex I have no issue at all with the plausibility of a willing sink. Sometimes the victim may expect to escape, or when failing to do so just accepts their fate, or is so enveloped in pleasure that they are oblivious to danger. There are many news stories of people being hurt or killed while having sex in unusual situations every year. One example with some connection here was a woman in Australia who drowned while having an underwater romp - http://whensexfightsback.wordpress.com/2012/08/25/woman-drowns-after-underwater-oral-sex/ I recalled reading about this one because I have similar peripheral fetish interests.
Bottom line is to make a good scene no matter what. The best scenes end with a final gasp and a BLOOP!
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Re: Wlling Sink and Submergence
I suspect, and I am no psychologist (nor do I play one on TV) that the difficulty some have with stories or scenes involving a willing submergence is the unwillingness (neglect, inability, whatever) to see things other than literally. A story or scene may be written, or filmed, in a straightforward way that is too easily read, or viewed, literally, when can be read, or viewed, in a figurative or symbolic sense.
Many people have argued, and I think they are right on, that quicksand can be seen in a metaphorical way. In a dramatic scene it the quicksand may represent the worst possible way to die (being drawn into the grave still alive). But in a sesnsuous or erotic scene the metaphor is very different. There it can be a metaphor for sex. Sinking represents foreplay and intercourse and going under represents orgasm. The character portreyed goes under but does not actually die because its all metaphor, EVEB if there is no mention of that in the narrative or dialogue.
I am reaching here but it seems reasonable to me to hypothesize that quicksand as a turn-on, kink, or fetish is derived from its metaphorical nature even if a person is not conscious of that nature.
