Best Female Submersions - Movies, TV

Hi Folks,
We have chatted a lot over the years about our favorite scenes - from one aspect to another. I'm wondering what others consider the best female submersion scene in a movie or tv episode. My all-time favorite is the Moonstone scene (1996): we watch the actress from shoulder depth sink all the way under - and see her whole face, with her arm/hand above her going under last - one fluid shot (no cut-aways); and with bubbles, too! I'm still trying to figure out how they shot this!
My second favorite is The Dawns Here Are Quiet - great struggling, but the decent is a bit too "jagged" for me, if you know what I mean. Kudos for the actress, though, for the open mouth scream as she goes under. Also, the quicksand is a bit too watery for my tastes. I also think her walk through the bog/marsh helps to elevate the experience - a long, slow buildup to the finale.

Mike, you just pegged my two favorite scenes, and for exactly those same reasons you give!
The Dawns Here Are Quiet scene just blows me away each time because she's so darned attractive, struggles nicely and for the muck filling her mouth choking off her final cries. The Moonstone is awesome for how she keeps staring straight ahead, only closing her eyes at the last possible moment.... watching the wet sand creep up her face, sealing up her nostrils and then taking the rest of her is just mesmerizing.
The added bonus is both were shot in natural locations. That adds so much to the authenticity of the scenes. I agree with the DHAQ scene is also enhanced by the long slog through the marshes.

My favorite may not actually exist but I have a distinct memory of it, or at least certain details of it. I don't know the title except to say it was some sort of monster flick from the 1950s or possibly earlier. What I saw was a trailer or teaser, shown as an ad during a Saturday morning "adventure theater" sort of program, so it must have been for something circulating in the theaters around then (which would have been the late 50s. What I remember was a young women backing away in horror at some sort of creature that was threatening. She then fell backwards into the mire. At that point there was a cutaway, I think to the creature, and then back to her, at which point she had gone under except for her two arms. I distinctly remember that the arms were sort of reaching up and down alternately. After a few seconds of that the trailer ended, probably with some sort of message about where the flick was playing but I remember none of that.
I have done numerous searches to try to identify the movie, but to no avail. If anyone here has the ability to search old broadcast records, the station was very likely WHDH, which at the time was channel 5 in Boston. It could also have been WBZ, channel 4, or WNAC, channel 7. The time would have been the late 1950s.

One of my favourite scenes was from the 159 "Hound Of The baskervilles" with Marla Landi. Unfortunately it was also one of the shortest, but there was an extra part in the cinema trailer. it's a pity they cut the scene, otherwise it would have been a classic.

Very good question. Impossible answer.
It is difficult for me to point to any one scene as a favorite. As Dave is fond of pointing out each of these scenes has a "moment" we all enjoy and much of our interest is comprised of "moments". I'd love to take the submersion and setting from
The Dawn's are Quiet, the knees-to-chest struggle and panic of
Tarzan's Hidden Jungle, the gradual rising of the voice as well as the chest to neck sink from
Valley of Mystery and tiny pieces of so many others, along with a generous helping of wet skin, long hair, and a killer figure, and put them all in a blender. Then you might have my favorite scene. Until then I'll just have to keep watching all of them and a lot of near misses, dream of what could have been, and hold them all as "favorite."
