Vats of goo put out for cattle.

I've seen these vats , about a yard I think that ranchers put out for cattle. Their filled with some molasses like stuff. I've been in one in Utah a few times that sat out by a hot spring. This stuff is shiny and slippery but not too sticky. The only problem is it's acidic, any scratches you have will burn like hell so you need some cleanup water right there. Not sure what it's for maybe it's medicinal or some sort of vitamin supplement. I was floating in this goo laying down literally up to my neck, loads of fun except for the annoying acidity.

Interesting. I'd want to be able to sink vertically in it rather than lay down in it. The acidity might not be annoying to me, since I would be wearing a rainsuit (and maybe other things underneath, like a wetsuit), but I could be wrong.

You got me curious. The only thing I can find on Google that resembles what you described are cattle dipping vats.

Do you think that could be what they are?

If so, any ticks on you are now dead.

Definitely not for dipping, they weren't big enough for that and the cattle would drink the stuff. It had to be some kind of supplement or maybe a medicine for parasites or something.

It's actually molasses. It's used as an energy supplement. Kind of like a literal Red Bull.
