Forum Rules Updated

Postby dlodoski » Sun May 31, 2015 7:14 pm

Hi Folks,

Due to a recent incident, I have updated the forum rules.

While I believe in frank and open discussions, some topics can too easily be seen as beyond poor taste, and, frankly, dangerous to the community at large.

For the sake of transparency, I will leave this open to discussion.

I think it's less about topics and more about people who are dangerous and in poor taste. Some show up for their own entertainment or because they live on lies, disinformation, controversy, and the like. When it gets to the point that they are tripping over their own lies in private messages that threaten producers, QSF, and various members it's time to go. This board is almost a little too patient and understanding with such people and allows them to come back over and over again thinking they are somehow going to change. Trolls are more problem than topics.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I agree with all that, but really, I do feel pretty strongly about the concept here.

The thread in question (which has been moved out of sight - not deleted) more or less posed the question;

If a quicksand video you were watching turned out to be an actual homicide, would you continue to jack off to it?

It kind of strikes me like the porn industry talking about 'child pornography' being an oxymoron. Pornography is legitimate sexual material, performed by consenting adults. So, what is considered child pornography isn't pornography, it's a crime caught on film. So, that's the way I see the question, and why it's inappropriate. It isn't a quicksand video if it is in fact a homicide. It's a crime. And it's not what we're here for. It doesn't warrant a discussion here.

That's not to say that discussing mortality is off limits. It's not. In fact, the doers here should be very aware of the risks they take. Death is a possibility.

But if you want to talk about jacking off to death, do that somewhere else.

Now, more to Duncan's point;

The person who started the topic is a troll who has been previously banned from this board. He showed his trollish intent later in the topic.

Another troll, who had previously been temporarily banned and then deleted upon request, jumped in.

They are both gone, their stay having been over-welcomed, as it were.

You should let people see why they were banned, and knowing how long we do tolerate trolls. When idiots cross lines.
How unfortunate you didn't have a proper guide to navigate these swamps.

Us doers discuss mortality with the express purpose of avoiding it.

I saw the thread before you moved it. Yep, I'm glad it's gone. We just don't need that kind of publicity.

Ordinarily I would agree that a person who is banned should be informed about why. However, and especially in the case of trolling, baiting, and similar reasons, that information should be provided in private.

In a case in which there is a long history of problematic behavior, warnings, prior bannings, and the like, I see no reason for explanations. Its sorta like trying to explaining the psychology of behavior management to a two-year old.

Hmm. Three topics that could keep one busy for a while.

The most important thing to know about all this is that we have a well behaved community here. One that I am happy to serve.

But that leads to problems. If we had to deal with trolls on a regular basis, we would be better at it. So, I consider myself as having been through a refresher course just now. We're not going to make things worse by dealing with this stuff publicly, if we can avoid it. Like Fred said, these guys knew what they were doing. Both were repeat offenders. Both were disciplined before. One was a 'poke it see if it squeaks' kind of troll. The other was out to make the leadership here (and at DS back in the day) look bad, whenever possible. Enough said.

Idiots are welcome. We are all idiots from time to time. :)

I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.
