Happy 7th Birthday Quicksandfans!

Postby dlodoski » Thu Apr 14, 2016 3:27 am

Hi Folks!

Quicksandfans launched seven years ago today, as is still going strong. :)

I would like to thank everyone who participates here, and also Kookus for his gracious technical support.

Our hosting has been pretty stable lately (touch wood - lol) and the recent version upgrade, while not yet entirely polished has been a success. I think most people don't realize how much can go wrong when the site is rebuilt in the way that this upgrade required. Missing posts and or/avatars are some of the noticeable issues, but there are many others. The new version is much more mobile friendly, and speaking from a contributor's viewpoint, much more up-to-date regarding posting attachments.

We are currently using approximately 35% of our allocated disk space. The entire site is backed up daily (incrementally) and a succession plan is in place should something happen to yours truly.

Ours is a mature community, but we continue to see fresh faces and we will continue to welcome all who are aroused by this oddly titillating subject!

Happy Birthday Quicksandfans.

I joined in late 2014 and have never regretted it. I was a lurker for a number of years and very much wish I had joined years earlier. There is so much to read about!! So any lurkers out there just register and enjoy. It's a great community that I'm pretty sure I shall never leave. How did we ever get by without modern technology and the people that took the vast amount of time and effort to not only set up this website but keep it going as well.

Very much looking forward to everyone's future posts.
Keep sinking all.

The Highwayman.

Happy birthday, QSF.
May we enjoy seven more, and more, at least.

I joined in 2009, and have not looked back since ! It was fantastic to find a forum for people with like minded interests, and the videos / scenes have improved year on year, so many congratulations to Dave, Fred and all those who have helped to make our little corner of the internet what it is. :D

Thanks for the kind words. Rest assured there are MANY ore scenes still to come. That said, I hope everyone recognizes that the strength of a community like this lies in its vitality. That is, its "life". I believe the vitality of an on-line community lies almost entirely with the activity (perhaps 'activeness' would be a better word) of its members. That is enhanced by "engaged" participation - creation of stories, manips, art work, videos, audios, websites, etc., use of chat rooms, actual meetings between members, simple posting of questions, comments, general ideas, and so on, and anything else that keeps the community active. It is not enhanced by the gimmes and vacuumers who merely lurk, isolated, in the background. I urge everyone to do their part by participating.

What Fred said.

I went back and checked - I was the fourth member and thus far the fourth most prolific poster. Much of that came early on but I want to remain engaged. This place has been here for seven years for a reason. QSF has been the longest single home I've had to share this interest with everyone else beginning with Usenet, Splosh, the MPV BBS, and on through to DS where I spent four interesting years. I like to think this has become our "forever" home.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

The quicksand community also has a long "chat" history, which, sadly to me, appears somewhat in jeopardy. There was WAM_Quicksand on IRC for many years, run first by James diGriz and then by myself. After that there was a chat for a long time on Yahoo Chat, run mainly by myself with a lot of assistance from Ken Hamilton and Dr Yen. Then there was Sinking Island, created by Jiminy Thicket but participated in heavily by myself, Ken Hamilton, Dr. Yen, and various others. After the debacle at Deepsinking and the creation of this site there was the chat room here until the upgrade, and also the chat at my forum. That one still exists but is not widely used. I do hope there can eventually be a new chat here, though I recognize there is no current phpbb extension for that that is compatible with the services available from the host server.
