Quicksand Fans

Not to worry too much, but...

A thing that has come up for me, before, is managing "leaks" into the type of photography that I do. A benefit of shooting outdoors in a natural location is the relative spontaneity of the shoot, in that periods of time could pass between shots and thus there are few set patterns in what I do.

If I start shooting outdoors on a set piece of property, one consideration I've thought about is the possibility of having a neighbor accidentally discover my interests with a drone flyover, and then continue to watch and invade my privacy with their camera flying about.

Have other producers thought about this or encountered it as a problem? Or, how about landowners, in general?

Short of using AAA , I am not sure how you could deal with that. It is literally an undiscovered country there. If the terrain had cover, like trees or brush, or a canopy it would be less of a problem. But anything open, it's pretty much wide open.

This is an excellent example of how Location Matters.

I think this would be highly unlikely unless A) you were really unlucky, or B) someone knew what you were up to in advance.

To paraphrase the movie Armageddon "It's a big ass sky!" and the chances of a drone just happening upon you during a shoot are slim to none, I would think.

Now as an idea for a qs scene... having someone chased into the bog by a drone could have possibilities... if one had a drone to chase ladies with...

Yes, the same would hold true for Fred, I suppose. There's still too much West Coast in me to be fearful of some yahoo with a drone buzzing about. I need to work on this.

I had the same thought.

We used to joke about The Black Helicopters showing up at our desert location. Actually, it was a metaphor for my (much diminished) paranoia.

And then one day, a black helicopter showed up. Hehe

Gee, thanks...not once did the idea of drones hovering over mudpits cross my mind...and now that is has been mentioned -- it cannot be un-mentioned!

Between that and the explosion of cameras literally everywhere (everybody with their cell phones and all the surveillance cameras in stores and other places), it could be that I "retired" at about the right time.

I agree, though, that your own drone, with your camera mounted on it, might have some dandy uses. Shots from angles that you can't get otherwise, for one thing.

That's a pretty funny shot. Especially the angle of her pink jacket. Hmm...black helicopter pilot just may have gotten an eyeful?
