Quicksand Fans

I don't mean the kind where you lie on a table and they coat you in mud... I mean the kind where you sink into a tubfull of thick warm mud.

I did it a few times on visits to Calistoga, about 1 1/2 hr drive north of San Francisco. It was incredible - exactly like I always imagined the experience of being trapped in qs would feel like. The second time I did it the mud was way too hot (the mud is heated by underground hot springs) - just on the warm side makes the experience that much more pleasant - no soggy chills like you'd probably wind up feeling in a real-life bog. (Not to mention no chance of drowning the same way!) Now if only they made a tub deep enough to stand in rather than lying in it horizontally...

If the clay pit at Studio 588 counts, then yes. In-freakin'-credible. That sink was worth the cost of the airfare all by itself. Just hanging there, suspended chin-deep in the clay, weightless, with the heavy warm slipperiness pressing in all around me. Not touching bottom- and I'm over 6' tall. Sigh. . .

Studio 588? A standing upright mud (okay, clay) bath, where I can safely pretend I'm sinking into quicksand? Just where is this wonderful place?

Looking into the "Producer Area" of this forum would be a good place to look to find out.

Yes, I took a Napa Valley hot volcanic ash mud bath (alone and naked) back in 2000 -- enjoyable but too hot and too shallow.

I had to lie near the top (just below the surface) and not let my butt get too low into the tub or I would have scalded my buns!

I was in Moffett Field area for a week long project management class and literally snuck away one night to drive two hours each way to enjoy an hour of mud bath.

I hardly got any sleep that night and it showed the next day when I let my class team members do most of the work while I drifted between various levels of awareness ...

Yes, in Calistoga. And for anyone going to Munich in Germany, stay at the Hotel Wetterstein. They have a communal mudbath in their sauna area!.

I wish i was there.
Unfortunarly i haven't been in an SPA mudbath yet, but sometimes i used to have a deep warm mudbath at the rivers....

Thnaks for the info. I'll go to Germany this summer. Was that expensive?
