Quicksand Roleplaying?

So I'm curious,... is Quicksand Roleplaying still a thing in this community, or not so much anymore?
There don't seem to be any really Active chatrooms anymore, but what about messenger programs, like Yahoo, Aim or ICQ? These seemed to be pretty popular in years past for such, but it doesn't seem so much anymore. But maybe I'm mistaken.
Any thoughts on the matter, or anyone out there that still does QS Roleplaying by chance?
Sorry if this topic has been brought up before and I just missed it.

I feel like it's definitely a thing, especially on second life, but I try to stay as far away as possible... RP makes me very nervous for some reason, haha.

RPing is definitely going on in the furry community still. It's mostly one on one stuff, though. I rarely hear about group sinking rps anymore.

The chatrooms at psychicworldjungleland.com are still available for this. Whether it is active or not is up to whether people come in, or not.

I have never done RP either on messenger or chat room. I'll check out psycic world some time.
There's nothing better than doing it for real though but then I do have a fantastic sinking spot!!

There are so many opportunities for one-on-one stuff now. Every phone has a personal messenger, voice, Facebook messenger, Snapchat, twitter, Skype, Facetime, etc to "play" with. I think that is where most of the younger (under 35?) fans are at. Virtually everyone has their own personal device that's practically a chat factory. We joke with my daughter about her "virtual" boyfriend who is at college but always with her in excellent fidelity on the screen of her iPhone.

Personal phones and the like may be part of the apparent demise of chats and/or roleplaying chats, but I think a larger factor is an apparent shortage of the critical mass needed to keep it going. All of the chat rooms our community has had over the years (the IRC room created by James DiGriz and later run by myself, the Yahoo rooms, run largely by myself and with a good deal of help from Kham, Sinking Island created by Jiminy, the chat room that used to be here at quicksandfans, and the PsychicWorld JungleLand Bar and Grill, created and still kept open by myself have all suffered from having just barely enough people to keep them running. Many, many people came into these rooms a few times only to find them empty or almost so, and then were never heard from again. I think the newer technologies mentioned by Duncan simply act to make the rooms found empty an even more common occurrence.
The Bar and Grill is open 24 hours a day, though not manned by the resident "Norm" character (me) nearly as much as it used to be. It might help some if there was a direct hyperlink from here to there, but that is not likely to happen. It might also help if two or three people got together to decide on a specific time to go there and then publicized the schedule here. There are actually two "rooms" available in case some people want to do some all out rp while others prefer to just chat.

That may well be true but social media have kind of taken over what we used to refer to as "Chat". Younger folks especially have access to to 24x7 "chat" on everything in the universe. They could be curing cancer or solving a world of problems but it appears to be mostly about pictures of cats and getting into insult contests with strangers. If the subject matters at all there is no shortage of anything out there.

True but here the subject matter does matter.

Well the point I'm trying to make is that the world, the technology, has changed. Again. People don't congregate in chat rooms or even at specific websites like this one. Many users, if not most, don't even sit down at a pc any longer. The "chat" like distractions have become part of everyday life for many without even realizing it.
