Quicksand Fans

I was in Croatia for a vacation and found a “healing mud beach” where people smeared mud on themselves, let it dry, and washed it off in the sea. It’s funny how when mud becomes “healing” it all of a sudden becomes socially acceptable to use it. But being able to openly walk around other people while covered in black mud was quite a good feeling to say the least.

But that got me wondering if there are any nude beaches out there that also have mud, “healing” or not. Ever encountered something like that?

I have never been to this location but evidently it was once known as a nude beach with a "mud pit".
I have found more recent videos of people (including children) in swimsuits playing in the mud pit here.

Maybe I'll check this place out and possibly add it to the mud map. I have been hoping to add to the mud map but I am not ready to give away my few sweet locations.

Another attraction at Hidden Beach is the mud pit, located on the eastern side of the beach, where visitors often jump in the mud and later rinse off in the lake. One of the most famous beach regulars is the "Mud Man", who greets beach goers ("Good afternoon!"), informs them of the status of the mud pit ("It's ready!"), and also keeps a count of the number of mud pit bathers for every day, week, month, and year. The Mud Man also clears the mud pit of foreign objects such as litter and sticks.

I wonder what his handle here is...

In Vancouver, right beside UBC, is a nude beach called "Wreck Beach". Just to the south of it, are mudflats. When I was there, before my '96 fall semester classes really started to get going and sucking away all of my time, I walked around the mudflats (not nude but clothed), finding the clay soft and shallow on top but solid lower down in most areas. But, each time I approached a strip of ground with water oozing on top, the solid layer of clay under my feet would suddenly take on a rubbery feel and start to give way (the surface of the more watery strip in front of me undulating more fluid-like), forcing me to back away before my leg fell through any deeper into liquid mud underneath and got my clothes muddy. Poking a stick into the mud, I found it to be around waist deep with a solid bottom. Further down, where there were a bunch of logs on the shoreline at low tide, the mud was more generally soft all the way through. I never did anything mudplay related, but instead just had a walk around the area, trying not to get my clothes muddy, and picking up the odd piece of broken glass to dispose of in a garbage can at the beach.

Sounds cool, I think I’ve heard of Wreck beach. Will have to check it out if I’m ever in Vancouver again!

While I would love something like this, (then again Southport beach over here in the UK may as well be a mud beach...) I hate how I look, so no thanks.

Sorry for again quoting myself here. I just want to say that I did visit Hidden Beach and the mud pit there. I also added it to the Mud Map along with some pictures of the mud pit. The pit had a fair amount of water on it and I was not dressed for sinking. Next time for sure. Maybe on a weekend when there may be some other enthusiasts. Maybe I'll even meet the Mud Man!

Just incase you're wondering, Minnesoootah people are usually pretty easy to get-ta-no.
