Quicksand Fans

Or in other words: How far do you drive for a good spot?

Due to personal/job-reasons i'm soon forced to move to another location in an entirely diferent part of my country (At least there is more money involved ).

Problem is: I have a multitude of excellent, secluded sinking spots (bogs, tidal mudflats) at hand and i'm totally spoiled with getting stuck and sinking as deep as i want in perfect, bottomless mud.
Where i'm moving to it's a lot more dry, quite hilly and also much more metropolitan. Using google earth i have not found anything close as good as i'm used to so far . Right now i can't imagine myself romping around in muddy fields or along some small brooks only to find knee-deep mud, like i was 12years old again

Only option: Getting to my old spots, even this would now require a good 4-5hour drive (some 300miles or so).

As a european i'm interested in the american perspective: Is that a distance you would do for a (really good) sink?

I am not a sinker - just a property owner - but I have people come from as far away as Norway to use what I have.

My best spot is 90 miles-say 80 minutes on the motorway Some less interesting mud-bogs on Dartmoor-are a matter of 15 to 30 minutes
I go to the good mud as often as I can afford time & money for fuel The bogs have to suffice to keep me sane when I am less solvent!!!

I'm fortunate, quarry I go to is only about 5-10min away, same with the bogs, they're next to it. The tidal flats are about a 30min drive.

My favorite spots are only a 10-15 min. drive. The only drawback is that you have to hike 1-3 km and some of it is off trail hiking but not too challenging, the privacy I have is the good point.

I'm use different spots. As I like 'wild' places, with natural deep, I try to found something like this. And unfortunately all of that far from me. Nearest point in 80-90 miles away... at different ways - quarries, swamps in 70-90 miles to West, mudflats to South... But I'm not neglect of knee-deep places too - it good for small walking... So farm mud, plowed wet soaked fields and nice manure swamps more closer to me - about 15 min walking...

About an hour southwest of here. Nice place with all the amenities and lots of wildlife.

I am not personally a sinker but I do have three pretty good, albeit homemade, spots within 50 yards of my house.

Dang. Seems doing a sinking adventure now means a weekend trip.

When I eventually can go, I have to go all the way to Bristol! That's about an hour drive, 2 hours possibly.
