Quicksand Fans

I did not see any spots close to the Norfolk and Richmond Virginia area on the sinking map. I am hoping there might be a few people on the forum who might know of some areas worth exploring. If anyone would have some suggestions, I would appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance.

Am from Richmond area. Central VA is so densely populated that most swamps are nearly inaccessible. Try some of the wildlife management areas on the middle and northern neck peninsulas. Should be some good tidal mud there. It’s hard to mark spots on the map because with virginia’s Climate and near constant rain for several years, a pit 50 feet wide and 4 feet deep may completely wash away in less than 24 hours, depending on the weather.

I went to school in Richmond. I never seen any mud/quicksand but I always wondered. I agree. Maybe closer to the Norfolk area or on the eastern shore but that is far.

Thanks for the feedback. I will start checking maps of those areas. I am hoping to find something usable by early July.

Try the large quarry near Gore, Virginia.

Thanks for the tip. We are expanding to look up that way and Northern NC as well.
