Adobe Premiere settings

Postby Chimerix » Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:26 pm

It's summertime, and one of my annual summertime events is the updating of Adobe products. So, I migrated from CC 2019 to CC 2020. Then I started a new editing project using Premiere. What an awful experience! Simply previewing footage caused the computer to choke. Trying to scrub was painful. This is simple footage, garden-variety HD, 1920x1080@29.97p. My computer isn't new, but it should be able to process this in its sleep!

Onto help sites and forums, looking for an answer. My thoughts are that either CC 2020 is a resource hog, or that there's an option in the new version that's defaulted to something unhelpful. A few days pass before I get a useful answer, but it is indeed an option that's gotten toggled off by the update.

Premiere has the ability to shift image processing to hardware, or to send it all to the CPU. Most Intel-based machines, which which include most Macs, do have at least a little bit of a graphics coprocessor built in. I had to find the option, buried in the Media preferences, and re-enable it.

Why am I posting this in the quicksand discussion portion of the forum? Because of Intel's cutesie name for the feature:

Quick Sync!

Interesting. The service I use for cloud storage and online file delivery is called "Sync".
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 13 different producers. Info may be found at:
