TCM Quicksand Double Header

Postby DangerGirl » Thu Oct 29, 2020 7:07 pm

For those who have access to Turner Classic Movies, they're showing the quicksand double-feature of "From Hell It Came" and "Death Curse of Tartu" today (Thursday, 29 October), starting at 1:15 Pacific Time (probably 4:15 Eastern, 3:15 Central, and 2:15 Mountain, assuming it's airing simultaneously US-wide and not adjusted for time zones).

I was too late in reading your message. I wish I saw those movies.

Apologies for getting the notice out so late. I only noticed it in the lineup yesterday morning. Neither scene is great, but they are both kind of fun in their own ways.

Being a TCM regular I managed to catch Death Curse of Tartu just for fun.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I had both of these films on DVD until they were destroyed in the fire.

As ridiculous as the whole movie is I always liked that scene. You got a curvy island girl who really does her best to sell the sink in classic form. It works.

EDIT - I think if I was directing it they would have both fallen in during the catfight. The Tobonga would have taunted them by dangling a branch as they went under.

The thing that always bugged me about that scene was the weird way she was holding her right hand up close to her face, like she was preparing to hold her nose at some point.

I was on edge the first time I saw the movie in the 1970s, until she was dropped in. Sawdust on water. Big letdown for me.

But others still seem to love it, so there ya go.

And here's the scene of interest in Tartu. I often fantasize this scene, but in my version she only sinks knee-deep in thick clutching QS when she falls in, and then starts a slow sink deeper and deeper as she struggles to get out.

Enjoy the original as-is: https://youtu.be/uF6qOABh_ME
