Movies You Wished Had A Quicksand Scene/Near Misses

I haven’t been writing much lately, I probably won't have another story ready to post for a month or two. So instead, I thought I'd do something different this month.

Forgive me if something like this has been discussed here in the past but the other day, I was thinking about movies I wished would’ve had a quicksand scene, so I thought I’d start a discussion about it and start it off with a few I thought off (I might add more later as I think of it).

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
During the beach fight scene between Jack, Will, and , Elizabeth tries to get the men’s attention and break up the fight by pretending to collapse in the heat, but the men just ignore her and continue to fight. I thought it’d cool if just after that, she stands up and starts to sink in quicksand. Now in real trouble, she screams for them to help her, but they just continue to fight and ignore her. Finally, neck deep, the two idiots stealing the chest pull her out and say something like, “you’d be safer with us!”

Tammy Tell Me True (1961)
As Tammy leaves her houseboat in the swamp (in her bare feet, not wanting to ruin her shoes) to walk to the nearby college, she comes across a dark, muddy looking spot beside the water. She dips her toe in it and decides to step around it, perhaps believing it to be a patch of quicksand (as I hoped), and/or maybe just not wanting to ruin her dress in the deep mud. As she approached it, I was so hoping she would walk right into it, get stuck and start sinking, and maybe escape on her own after a minute or two. (If I remember correctly, there actually was a mud scene in one of the Tammy movies, where she fell in a pig pen and got covered in mud).

So, what movies or TV shows have you always wished had a quicksand scene?

Almost every anime/cartoon movie with a proper quicksand environment! Seriously, jungles aren't jungles without quicksand! And that's just one environment!

Dragon Ball: The Path to Power. And that's just the tip of the ice berg for me.

Village of the Dammed

Children conceved by alien force in women and teen girls in villages around Earth. They had telekanetic power which was shown at work when the eyes glowed. They killed people even for an accident that nearly (but does not) hurt one of their own.

Can imagine them making a victim walk into quicksand and using their power to suspend the soil so it is low enoug density to let victim go under, then stop telekanetic and the soil settles down and keeps victim.

Empire Strikes Back

Dagobah was ripe for quicksand scene with all that jungle.

Swamp Thing 1982

it's right there in the title! so many possibilities, but either/or/both:
Agent Cable decides to take a relaxing bath, not knowing the Swamp Thing is watching her but doesn't want to confront her--- but he has no choice once she tries to get out of the water and slips into a quicksandy part of the shore. She's chest deep by the time he reaches her...

Agent Cable and the Swamp Thing have escaped from the dungeon, but Arcane had taken her off the dungeon wall and tied her up again, so she's at a disadvantage trying to run--- and Arcane has transformed into a monster, hot on their tail; as the two mutants fight, Cable slips into quicksand and her bondage makes escape impossible--- she sinks steadily and unless Swamp Thing prevails, she's doomed...

I believe this topic came up once before so I will give the same answer I did then, admittedly a rather flip answer: Every movie ever made that did not have a quicksand scene but did have at least one minute of footage done outdoors. Also, I don't think this has been done but there ought to be an episode of something like HBO's Real Sex in which a mud wrestling, porn shoot is interrupted by something that causes all the women to flee outside and fall into quicksand. Maybe its a nightmare of sorts.

Err...ok I'll take my medicine now.

I hadn’t given much thought to cartoons. I love just about every Pixar movie (even now as an adult), but I’ve never been much into anime, except for Speed Racer (I think that’s kinda anime?) and there were two others I watched as a kid but I can’t remember the titles. A quicksand scene with Trixie from Speed Racer would be cool (I can’t recall a specific episode though). As for Pixar, the first that came to mind.

Tangled (2010)
It’d be cool if Repunzel fell into quicksand at some point and struggled with her hair for a while as she sank to grab onto something and free herself. And/or, maybe she goes under, her hair slowly following and a minute later, Flynn finds and follows her hair to the quicksand and pulls her out. If memory serves me, I think one of the songs actually mentions quicksand in the lyrics?

Ah yes, the Swamp Thing, that was totally on my mind when I wrote this but it’s been so long since I’d seen it, I couldn’t remember the title or a specific scene. An excellent choice and two great synopses. The whole time I was watching it in my mind I was like: “please have a quicksand scene, please let there be a quicksand scene!” Who ever did that movie really dropped the ball, and I think there was also a sequel that still didn’t deliver our favorite peril.

Yes, sir. Speed Racer is indeed an anime. Old one, too.

Who says it has to be outdoors? (perhaps; a future story?) Yeah I figured someone already did this but alas, I’m much too lazy to go back and read through thousands of topics. And that was also my first thought, but then I thought, if every movie had a quicksand scene, I might get bored with it after a while. However, like Barney Rubble once said in reference to staying in Rock Vegas with all the dancing girls: “But it’s nice to think about!”

It would've been cool if HBO's Real Sex did a spot on their show with you or one of the other quicksand producers. I remember they did one with people having sex in mud out in the desert that was good, but still, not the same as sinking.

And I'm never on my meds ;)
