what about the water? does it not go stagnant and create odours etc? Say I wanted to create a bathtub or swimming pool of the stuff. If not then that's great news.

Probably true. Maintenace of a pit with Galium Polykryptonie, on the other hand, is easier still. That can be cleaned using a sonic vacuum cleaner, of which I have several in the tardis.
