I strikes me that if I were involved in a sink-in-over-head sequence, it would be the most emotionally uncomfortable thing in the world. That is when it can be come a real thing, so just asking if this is so and how do you deal with it?

not sure what you are really talking about but I have worked with more than 100 actresses doing submergences. If there was ever any fear involved for any f them it vanished as soon as they realized how easy it actually is to move and that coming back up is WAY easier then going down.

I only had four actresses, but for me, the most uncomfortable part of the process was actually talking to them first about what I wanted to film and who the audience was likely to be. I didn't shy away from the word "fetish" and I did let them know that there were guys who had a thing for this thing.

I never looked forward to those conversations but it wasn't fair to them to not tell them.

That means that by the time we got to the mudpit, all of that was settled.

I had so much mudpit experience of my own that I wasn't concerned about anyone submerging. I did have that one site, though, that was crawling with poison sumac. I definitely worried about that, but she was a good listener. She came out of it just fine.

It's all about the people you work with. You have to find the "thrill seeking exhibitionists" that lack the switch which tells them this is a potentially hazardous thing. The ladies you want are the "Looks scary. I can't wait!" types.

It's also easier to make the case in a studio or controlled environment. Take them out to a natural location in the wild where nature decides things and you find out who the real thrill seekers are. Show most ladies a video of Boggyman in Canada, a bottomless quarry, slurry pond, the freaking Mighty Mississippi, etc and they are not going near it. Look for those whose eyes light up as her breathing increases and that's the one that thinks being swallowed by a bog is too cool to miss out on. Then ask her who her friends are. They are the people who contact you every March and want to know when the next shoot is. They might be a little wary or even scared but that's what they like.

Tks - always been a wonder to me about our interest. Let us not call it a fetish either. In a controlled environment the going-under and cannot breath issue goes mostly away. But I remember one comment ages ago about Gummi having a kinda sorta really freaky time with not feeling a bottom. Which makes it very real indeed. THAT reality I would imagine can be weird. No bottom. Controlled outdoor pits, again, less so.

in this regard, i think it's no coincidence that many of the best candidates have experience as bondage models--- exhibitionists willing to go beyond the mainstream! working in any of our scenes poses unique concerns, but some of these women have been suspended, strappadoed, blindfolded--- and keep coming back for more

There are many additional advantages of controlled (man-made) pits. Although the background might start to look familiar, there is no possibility of arriving for a three-day shoot at a remote location only to find the mud is four inches deep. If a thunderstorm happens the retreat to shelter is perhaps 70 yards and not five miles, and (at least in some cases) the food and lodging is not all the way into town.

Exactly that and it's why producers gravitate to them. Like a military operation, it's logistics that make it work reliably. When you can create a studio in and around natural areas, it's the best of both worlds that the audience and the performers enjoy. Even thrill seekers like a hot shower, a home cooked meal, and a real bed at the end of the day.

It's true that submersion action falls off pretty dramatically at natural locations. But we did some. And I'll always be thankful that we left 'safe harbor' to film at those locations.

Oddly enough, we ended up with the best of both worlds - a prepared location that doesn't look like one.

But, back to the topic at hand. Scenes ending with a submersion don't just happen in a vacuum. There are many steps along the way. One factor that is rarely appreciated is how much information is passed amongst the models. In most cases, only cursory instruction was needed during shooting because the more experienced gals had schooled the new ones the night before.
