dlodoski wrote:Hi Folks,

Well, yea, this has been a serious outage. I understand how inconvenient it has been for our regular visitors. So, on behalf of our hosting provider, I apologize.

Starting Friday morning last, they blocked access to quicksandfans due to excessive traffic. I started calling them on Saturday and have spent roughly an hour each day on the phone with them since then.

Along the way, I brought in a third party firewall (which will definitely help down the road).

I can't promise that there won't be more downtime in the near future. Even as I type this, SSL is not working, so they are still making changes.

If there are any lingering issues tomorrow morning, I will be on the phone with them once again.

Dave

Seems to work just fine in my end

I'd like to add my thanks and relief at the return of this fine forum.

On a personal note I'd also like to thank Fred588, whom I e-mailed to find out why QSF had vanished.

He was able to supply some info and that news was very welcome.

Redjak.

You may want to consider following the main MPV Twitter feed. https://twitter.com/MPVisuals

Multiple messages went out regarding QSF, such as this one - https://twitter.com/MPVisuals/status/15 ... 2464594947

Notification on this episode was tricky, because no part of the site was visible. I would have enjoyed putting up some sort of special index page, but there was no point.

Echoing what others have said. Thank you for all you do, Dave. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say you're the backbone of this community.
I'm glad you were able to actually talk to a human on the phone about it. So many times nowadays, that's not an option anymore.

Ok, thanks Dave.

Actually, I tried to get in touch with you here.

https://allmylinks.com/feed

Where you've got 14 links to the various sites you run.

But, that's not a problem now that everything's been resolved.

Thanks again,

Redjak.

I didn't realize that there was a messaging function there. (Sorry!) In my mind, it was a 'one and done' deal that just needs updating once in a while. I will see if there's a way to set up notifications for incoming messages.

[Edit] I just now discovered that I had never verified my email address. I should get notifications now, regarding any future messages.

Glad to see QSF is back up! For me, I think it was down starting on or about the 25th, so after a almost a week I was beginning to worry we'd been "cancelled" :o

The "excessive traffic" issue makes sense I guess, as I see the "Most users ever online" has been reset to 325 on Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:43 pm. Before it was 234 on Tue Aug 29, 2017. Makes me wonder what caused the sudden influx of traffic?
