Song

Postby MDLambert » Thu Feb 09, 2023 2:23 am

I am a fan of country music and theres always been a song that caught my attention. The song is "the night the lights went out in Georgia " by Reba McEntire. A line in the song refers to the sister in law of reba in the story saying, she didnt leave town, thats one body that will never be found. My addled brain envisions her shooting her and pushing her into quicksand while she begs for help. Anyone else have weird quicksand things like this pop up?

Oh Lord, yeah. I remember when they used to play that song at the skating rink when I was a kid and some of the same pictures hit my mind.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I know that song well. I remember they even made a movie about it starring Kristy McNicol, Dennis Quiad and Mark Hamill.
I even have a copy of the song done by Vicki Lawarence.

"The Legend of Wooley Swamp" by the late great Charlie Daniels

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_7Ox9N1490Y

".....They threw him in the swamp, stood there, and laughed as the black water sucked him down
And then they turned around, went back to the shack
Picked up the money and ran
Hadn't gone nowhere when they realized that they were running in quicksand

And they struggled and screamed, but they couldn't get away
And just before they went under
They could hear that old man laughing in a voice as loud as thunder

That's been 50 years ago; you can go by there, yet
There's a spot in the yard in the back of that shack where the ground is always wet
And on certain nights, if the moon is right
Down by that dark footpath
You can hear three young men screamin'; you can hear one old man laugh....."
"Know thyself, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories."

I’d actually been thinking about posting a topic on song lyrics that I’ve interjected a quicksand theme into. Here's a few examples that come to mind:

Trisha Yearwood — I Did

I took my chances
Jumped right into the quicksand
I felt the rush, I lost my head
I learned to go under
Oh but then I had to learn how to get out fast
But I did

Carrie Underwood — Before He Cheats

(A final verse and chorus sung by the guy)

Right now, I’m gonna save a little trouble for the next guy
Cause somebody’s gotta teach this girl not to fuck with a guy’s truck
Oh, I wish she wouldn’t have fucked with mine
No, not with my truck

So I drug her outta her dam house
Drove her deep into the Everglades
I took a whole roll’a duct tape and wrapped her tight
Then I thew her sorry ass into the deepest quicksand I could find
Maybe next time she’ll think before she fucks with a guy’s truck
(Oh wait, there won’t be a next time  )

Taylor Swift — Wildest Dreams

Say you'll remember me
Sinking in a nice dress
In some thick quicksand, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you'll watch me go under
Even if it's just in your wildest dreams, ah-ah, ha (ha-ah, ha)

Dido — White Flag

I will go down in this quicksand
And I will put my hands down and surrender
There will be no escaping this trap
I'm in quicksand and always will be

And finally, that old classic:

Cyndi Lauper — Girls Just Want to Have Fun (in the mud)

But girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have in the mud

That's all they really want
Some fun in the mud
When the workin' day is done
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have fun in the mud
Finally broke down and went to see a psychologist. She told me I just have an overactive imagination—and it really excited her. We're going sinking next weekend. Theo's AI Quicksandbox New stuff every weekend (unless life gets in the way)
