Quicksand Fans

Ingrid and Ronda glance at each other for a moment. "Get out while you still can! Or we will both be goners," Ronda tells her. Ingrid agrees. After all she is the only one of the girls who seems to have any chance to still pull herself out of this mess. And maybe, if she succeeds, there is still a chance to save the others. So she tries to move back to where she stood earlier. Working her arms and leaning back, the struggling girl sinks deeper into the bog. As do the others though not as quickly. However, without anything solid to hold onto or push herself away from, Ingrid finds herself unable to move anywhere but down. "I am kind of running out of time over here. But... you know... no pressure and all that," Suzi sighs. She can only keep her nose and mouth above the morass by tilting her head back, and even though she is staying calm and very still, at this rate she may be the first to go under.

To quote Millie (if I remember rightly), "Might as well enjoy it while we can".

Interesting. I'll figure out something. For now I'm just glad that "Say some clever last words" did not win as I have no idea what Ingrid would have said.

Ingrid pauses briefly and realizes that this may be her last chance to safe herself. So she leans back and does the backstroke. She knows that her struggles will make her sink faster again, but that does not matter. Staying still will only delay the inevitable for another minute or two. So she decides to fight until the end. "Stop! You're only sinking faster!" Ronda says. But Ingrid ignores the warning even though Ronda seems to be right. While Ronda and Suzi remain still and slowly settle deeper into the bog, Ingrid is rapidly catching up. The morass quickly claims her neck, and continues to climb up her head. Struggling and sinking deeper, Ingrid takes one last deep breath, before the bog cuts her off from the precious air. "This is it, I guess," Suzi says as she is also just moments from submerging. "Oh God, no..." Ronda resigns. She watches Suzi go under, and Ingrid's arm reemerges for a few moments as she keep struggling underneath the surface. Eventually Ronda, too, draws one deep breath, before she also disappears into the bottomless peat bog. The surface calms down. Any trace that the three women left on the bog's surface slowly fades away.

Great ending! And hurray for all of them submerging...

At least Ingrid will be able to tell the others what happened to Ronda and Suzi, that is if she manages to make her way back...
