Chat - logging in and out

Postby Fred588 » Sat May 16, 2009 4:06 pm

I am sure most members are aware that we have a chat room and that the link to get into the room is to be found on the index page.

For those who do come to the chat room there is one small issue of the behavior of the room itself that is slightly different from other chat rooms and that warrants a request to all. Specifically, the chat room does not seem to be correctly detecting when people have left without actually logging out. As a result it is not uncommon for there to appear to be someone in the room when, in fact, they are not. Our technical guru is looking into a fix for this, but in the meantime, please remember to log out when departing. If you click on your name in the list of chatters, a list of available functions, one of which is "log out" will appear. Just click on that. This will log you out of the chat room, but will not affect your log-in status to the forum.

We have a chat room????
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Its on the index page. Click on "Board index" from any forum. Near the upper right corner is a link that says "chat:x" where x is the number of people currently in the room.

I just checked and its working now. It could have been a transient error. If the error persists it might be something in your computer. Knowing what the error says might be helpful.

I don't think I'm going to be of much help. All I can suggest is:

1) are you possibly using an old or unusual browser?
2) Is your version of javascript (or jscrift) out of date?

The file referred to is a php file, which is executed on the server. It would send a parsing error like that if an error occurred, but its not doing that when I access it. I'm not at all sure of where an XML parsing error would occur, but am guessing its on your machine.
