Quicksand Fans

Dude... Imagine my surprise after finally mustering up the courage to type up "quicksand" into google and finding out my, ahem, interests are not so bizarre as I've long thought...

Well, I can't say, in any justice, quite how happy I am to be among others with the same interests as me. Really, I'm kind of thrilled. Kind of like being on a desert island for twenty years, only to discover that right behind the lonely palm tree there was a city.

So yes, I am currently a University student in Alberta, who has not had the pleasure of actually sinking. Which leads me to ask a quicksand question: does anyone know of good sinking areas in Alberta, preferably around the Edmonton area? Any input would be pretty sweet.

The same thing happened with me 5 years ago. And the same happened with many other members of the community, too. Welcome aboard!

I totally get it, I was the same way until about two months ago. Anyways, I lived in Edmonton for years and did some exploring there. I live in Calgary now but feel free to connect throught the Private Message board.

It's amazing how often we hear the "I thought I was the only one" speech. Maybe we should advertise better? Welcome. You're not alone anymore.

Use Google Earth to locate the massive excavations south of Wabamun Lake (about an hour's drive west of Edmonton). These can be accessed in the evenings with little trouble from the south but be careful where you park. Some of the old pits are filled with several feet of the creamiest stuff you'll ever sink into....

oh my god! can you send me a PM with the exact location of these pits?! i have been looking for a good spot to sink in Alberta for some time now and would love to check this out

I too thought I was the only one in the whole world. I was so totally wrong. And discovering the error of my thinking was the greatest thing that ever happened to me.

Welcome to Quicksand Fans. I don't know your location but I see that advice is already coming in. Keep digging around here, and you'll find plenty of real-life sinking tales and more tips, not only on where to look, but how to look. And in a few years...who knows...they could be coming to YOU for advice!

i live in Edmonton and have a line on a fairly descent sinking hole withing the city limits that i frequent quite often, feel free to drop me a line through a PM or on messenger and feel free to ask, i also did add it to the google maps of sinking locations ^^

That is exactly what happened in the December of '97!

After I discovered the online world of sinking, I stayed up until after 2 am each night for quite some time absorbing all the online material available at that time.
