The thread about the world's oldest man got me to thinking.
I'm sure most of us will be lifelong fetishists...but...how old can we realistically expect to be and still be able to enjoy a nice pit of REAL quicksand, or mud deep enough to perform the role of quicksand?
I am 48 years old right now. I didn't even have my first sinking until I was 39. This was at the hands of Kaol at a site near Chester, IL. I didn't get really serious about finding my own sites until I was 45.
For the last three years I've been sinking pretty regularly.
This year, I'm getting at something deep and muddy about 1-2 times a week. This is down from last year but not because I'm slowing down physically. We're having a bit of a draught and some of my places are in a lot of trouble. They're drying out! My best mudpit from last year is now just a little spot of water in a sea of dried peat. I suppose I could sink in it but it's well outside of my cattail cover...it is now totally exposed to an interstate freeway...well, sure I could sink in it, but hundreds of passing vehicles will see it happen!
So I have to go farther out, and that means I can't make it to quicksand during the work week.
I would describe the sinking lifestyle as a thing that does require one to be in fairly good physical condition. How good, I guess, depends on how far out your site is and how much walking is involved in getting there after you park your car. Plus, if you use really thick mud, you'll need to be stronger than you'd have to be if you use runny soupy stuff.
And it depends on what your sinking style is. If you like wild stuff like belly flops, headfirst dives, flying leaps...or, you only get turned on if you can engage in extreme struggling...that'll up the ante.
So will a habit of trespassing on any property where you may have to SUDDENLY RUN from something.
I don't do much wild stuff, but crawling through some of my bogs can be a bit like climbing on monkey bars. And my mudpits are often thick enough, with bottoms sticky enough, to leave my legs sore from walking through them.
I do have quite a bit of aerobic stamina. I can walk or bike for hours. However, strength-wise, I'm definitely not a Superwoman. In fact, when scouring want ads, I have no business applying for jobs that require repetitive lifting of over 25 pounds. No, there's nothing wrong with me, just, that's about what I can handle before before it gets kinda dangerous.
So if I can do deep mud 1-2 times a week, it can't be something that shuts out a majority of the population, strength-wise.
Which is good. Because you won't get more muscle power as you get older.
But how old can we be before it's all too much? At what point do we need to admit that it's just not safe any more and give up the reality of the mire to cozy up to a nice quicksand video?
I have had two mud partners who were in their middle 50s. Anybody around here still in the mud and they're over 55?
How 'bout 60?
What about...70?
Or is that idealistic dreaming?
Who can say they're the World's Oldest Sinker?

Nessie - I am 54 (just shy of your 55 benchmark). I get out occasionally, although your locations on film shame anything I have found in SE Pennsylvania. Your 1 to 2 times per week also beats me by an order of magnitude. I am nowhere near as physically strong as I was 20 years ago,and it is indeed an issue in going sinking, or in spotting someone else sinking - just a fact of life. You are a pretty well preserved 48 (from keeping up on our videos) - you seem to have cheated time by a decade or so. I have started an exercise regimen for just this reason. Lots of younger people on this board - but there is still no female member who can touch you with respect to the whole body of art/story/video work. In my case, if you're a lifer, you're a lifer - it's that simple. I guess you just have to do what you have to do to make it work.

Age is sinking up on me as well LOL just a taste of QS humor
I Turned 41 in June and had my first sinking encounter back when I was 14 yrs old crossing a creek to go fishing. That creek today still flows and sometimes I take a look at that dried up spot that removed my boots. All I can do is laugh and say wow that was a scary experience , but my little bog won't come back until the winter rains come
Becasue at the time all I knew about QS was in the movies and I thought I was a gonner. But that was my only encounter with sediment that went up to my knees. Today I'm still looking for the big clay plunge and hopefully with some help from the studio and producers I can take a trip to the big bog

As the path narrows you find yourself face to face with a dark towering Shadow. A shadow composed of all your doubts and fears. And he's well armed to defend the treasure.

It's an issue for me too. The same old weight set that gave me small but wiry muscles 20 years ago just doesn't do the same thing for me today...and yes, I have tried.

In all honesty, I do think it's a bummer that I wasn't born a bit later. I didn't even do an out-of-mud cameo in a quicksand video until I was 41, and "Nessie, Quicksand Girl" is me at age 44. It sure woulda been nice to have had some "young 20-something babe" years for that damsel-in-distress quicksand video stuff. Plus, my illustrious video phase mighta lasted a lot longer if I'd had another decade or two to work with it.
I never knew anybody even THOUGHT ABOUT taking pictures or video of girls in quicksand until I was 39, already.
However, I do realize that things could be worse. I could be fatter. I could be wrinklier. And I have friends my age who are dead.
I won't really be that upset about having to put the camera aside for good someday. I'll still have the fetish, no doubt, just, I'll probably go back to art or writing or audio skits or something.
But the real bogs...yep, those, I'll miss. I didn't meet them until so recently.

Boy, am I ever glad that I didn't meet my first quicksand pit with Hollywood as my only teacher!

Congratulations on your early lead...but my age group actually IS in the lead and that is not what I thought would happen.
Not that many people cast a vote, though. As of now, I wouldn't call it representative.

If I could sink, I'd be on the poll in the early 50s.
but I know of no sinking locations or time slots with a familey to be responsble for.
