Happy New Year, everybody!
I will be spending the evening peacefully at home. My day job has closed for a few days around New Year's (they just never have much work around holidays) and so I have spent the last three days, you will all be happy to know, quietly walking through boggy areas. Yes, they are frozen, but I am taking notes and studying the aerial photographs on Google. There should be a good list to test come spring.
I don't drink, I don't party, and there won't be a reason for me to stay up 'til midnight. 2013 will be here whether I watch it arrive or not. I definitely feel these last three days of hiking in my muscles and think the time is best spent sleeping.
The Ness-Family is having a small dinner tomorrow to celebrate. And that's all I'm doing.

That sounds like a great idea however I will be welcoming the new year at the skating rink for most of the night with wife, daughter, and much of the local roller derby establishment.
Best wishes to all of you for 2013. Here's to hoping we can all get through it together.

Ever since I've been told that because they are spring-fed, the Massivian mudpit probably doesn't change temperature and may remain muddy all throughout the winter, I have wondered about a true winter sinking, right through the snow.
But...the mudpit isn't that far from the main trail. It's very private in the summer, but in January, the evidence of tracks and a big hole in the mud would be impossible to hide!
