cocoa beach area tidal mud?

Does anyone know where to go to find the tidal mudflats in Florida. Either in the cocoa beach space coast or daytona beach areas?

St Augustine and Jacksonville both have some...wasn't aware of any in Cocoa or Daytona, but that doesnt mean theyre not there. Just have to explore.

Wear water shoes for the clamshells and stay away during nesting season for alligators!

I live in the Saint Augustine area. There are some awesome areas to go sinking between here and Jacksonville. Plenty of really deep silky mud located in private areas where nobody will be watching you, unless of course, the person doing the watching is also joining you in doing the sinking too. The area I go consist of several 1000 acres, with all sorts of mud thickness, seemingly bottomless areas that are really tough to get out of. Access can be by either hiking or small boat.

If entering by small boat (I.E. Canoe, jet ski), you can avoid all the oyster shells and land yourself right smack on the mud flats. In this case, you can enjoy sinking completely butt naked. However, if hiking in, I highly recommend wearing some good boots, as the oyster shells you have to get across can really tear you up. Frankly, I prefer to take my jet ski right to the mud flats. In either case, cleanup is a sinch, as the Intercoastal Waterway is right there. As far as alligators go, I've never seen one although I'm sure they're around somewhere if you look long enough. I'd be more worried about snakes. I've been to this area many times and have to say, its about the best area I've ever sank at. I've been into sinking for more than 30 years. One thing about this area, there's mud here that can hold you down below your natural buoyancy point and continue to allow even further sinking. I do not recommend a total submersion, because your ability to just pop back up can be nil. Also, getting out of this mud can be far harder than sinking in, so watch those tides, as you don't want to have just your nose above the mud when the tide starts coming in. It can come in faster than you might be able to get out.
