Anyone had any thoughts on the ability of social media sites like Facebook, Pintrest, Twitter, etc. to share and communicate with each other? Is QSF the only place we need or would we benefit from a window to the wider world? Just curious on ideas that anyone might have.

For myself I see these kinds of systems as far too potentially invasive to be of interest. I do not use any of them in any capacity.

I concur with Fred... I like what we have with QS Fans, and, yes, I feel it's all we really need. Something along the lines of Facebook, Twitter, etc., can be quite invasive, and I, too, don't use or have any need for them.

i do use all of those sites,. and I keep in contact with a few other fellow fetishists on them too,. however its clean profiles only for most as we all have family members or work colleagues on there to,. its a very handy medium for simply keeping in contact as most of them now link directly to your smartphone

I do use Facebook, but as gamwam mentioned, just to keep in touch with folks for non-QS reasons. Some of you folks I met on the QS forums and have been chatting with for years, and it's nice that some of you have chosen to share more than just this one aspect of your lives. You people are by and large really cool! :D

This forum is the best place for Quicksand general community but yeah I've been dipping my toes in the other social networks...

Facebook - they will automatically close down any alternate accounts you make. If someone used their main identity to create a Facebook "Quicksand Group" I understand it could be tricky (but possible) to hide participation in the group from the rest of your social network. Too much risk and trouble!

Twitter - I made an account to socialize and promote my artwork (@silkyfriction) but I don't actually post much. There's only a small trickle of wet-and-messy fetish community on twitter. You can check various hash tags, but stuff like #quicksand is a complete non-starter (too many people using quicksand as a metaphor, and talking about the band Quicksand). You really have to find individuals you like, and follow them, which seems impossible for quicksand interest because I don't think anyone's on there (and I don't count because I don't post anything) :)

Tumblr - Many artists and photographers like Tumblr because its a micro-blog that puts images front and center, it's easy to search for images by tag so I view it as a good place to browse images, it's not so easy to actually communicate with people though, there is not even an easy "reply" or "comments" function. Quicksand community veteran Kaol is on there, and he regularly posts awesome vintage, rare, and hard to find pictures of women-in-peril / jungle girl situations :)

DeviantArt - some good quicksand photographers and artists post there stuff here, including a large number of Viridian's awesome quicksand stories, it's easy to "watch" who you like and receive updates on their newest postings. Overall great, with lots of features.

Pinterest - don't even know

I always thought of a meetup group. This way willing participants can discuss and schedule group activities. If people want to be more detached, they don't have to join the meetup group. I feel though there are not enough people who would want to join this.

I know of no reason why either of the chat rooms we already have cannot be used for such meetings. Meeting face to face is, of course, preferable, but I think we are a bit too thinly spread out to make that practical.

There was someone who had a "GirlsINQuicksand Instagram account. Which was quite amazing. They posted photos that were generally released here in the forums from all producers. But the account has since vanished. So he either deactivate it or it was shut down. It was interesting to see some of the comments and just your regular next door kinda girls following that account.

I left Facebook and Twitter because they make social media into a social disease.

This site is all we need.
