Quicksand Fans

Heard yesterday on the news that an unfortunate fellow in Los Angeles complained about his pool being full of mud. I do not laugh at mudslides, and many have died because of them but in this singular instance, our community would smile .... until we got the job of cleaning out the damn thing.

You can get an 8 foot diameter 30" deep quickset pool for $30......Fred could probably tell you how much Kaolin and water you'd need to fill a 1000 gallon pool.

Well I can certainly say that you'd need 1000 gallons in total. How much of that is water and how much is clay would depend on the desired thickness. But bear in mind that a typical wet clay would weigh about 1.3 times as much as plain water.

A quickset pool probably wouldn't be strong enough to hold that. I've been involved in calculations regarding the use of one for similar purposes. At best it wouldn't last very long.

Because a quick set pool is an above-ground pool. That means that the material the pool is made of must be strong enough to hold the weight of the material within. Think of the weight of the material within as the same as pressure. And those pools are made of some sort of plastic, which is not particularly good at resisting that sort of thing.

Have you thought about adding 3-4 layers of duct tape as reinforcement?

I would build a in-ground mud pit... what do i need for 4x4x3.5 (3.5 deep) with slow-med sinking and easier to escape... Whats the receipe for that?
