caution

This is really off topic but I think it is important enough to go here.

While I cannot speak for anyone else, I have lately been receiving a significant number of email messages that appear to be coming from members here. The content is always nothing but a hyperlink, very likely to some malware location. I even got one from myself once. On some of these, the message is directed to a large number of people, many of whom are members here. Almost certainly this means that someone's mailing list has been compromised.

Do not click on any link in a message that is nothing but or that is otherwise unexpected.

Thanks for the heads up, Fred. As a rule I never open e-mails if I don't know who they are from, but thanks for making us aware of a potential problem . . . It's much appreciated.

Opening the email is safe enough. Just don't click the link.
