I agree - he was always one of my favorite comedians - every show was good, as well as his standup routines. I always liked his Grace L. Ferguson Airline sketch - master of the deadpan. I will miss him. The last time I felt this way was when Jimmy Stewart died. You just feel bad when a truly nice and decent celebrity passes away.
We had a drinking game in college called “Hi Bob” watching the original Bob Newhart Show. Every time they said “Bob” you had to take a drink of beer. Every time they said “Hi Bob” you had to drain your glass. And these things were both said a lot of times each episode.
Now it’s time to say “Bye Bob.” RIP, Bob.

Re: To those no longer with us....
For sports fans, here’s a nod to golfer Chi Chi Rodríguez, who died Thursday at the age of 88. He was always fun to watch, a hall-of-famer as much for his charity work as for his play. He was still very good at an advanced age on the Senior Tour, as his family in Puerto Rico had a history of living to over age 100. His swordsman showmanship antics on the green bothered some fellow players, but it was meant in good fun, and I thought it lightened up an overly serious game. I was surprised he died at 88; I thought he might still be playing senior tour golf. RIP.

This was one of my favorite scenes from WKRP. Les also mispronounced the name of tennis star Vitas Gerulaitis, with Johnny Fever also trying to correct him, unsuccessfully of course.

Re: Wally Amos, 88, of cookie fame, died at home in Hawaii
Wallace “Wally” Amos, the creator of the cookie empire that took his name and made it famous and who went on to become a children’s literacy advocate, has died. He was 88.
Amos created the Famous Amos cookie empire and eventually lost ownership of the company — as well as the rights to use the catchy Amos name. In his later years, he became a proprietor of a cookie shop called Chip & Cookie in Hawaii, where he moved in 1977.
He died Tuesday at his home in Honolulu, with his wife, Carol, at his side, his children said. He died from complications with dementia, they said.
My strongest memory of him is when he appeared in my favorite episode of "Taxi". Mr. Amos appears around the 8:45 mark

As a life-long music lover and listener, this one hits me harder.
Greg Kihn, Rock Singer Behind 'Jeopardy' and 'The Breakup Song,' Dies at 75
While most people knew Greg by his popular hits like "Jeopardy", the one I love the most and recall best is fittingly titled "Remember". One of those fantastic gems that you sit back, relax, listen and let carry you away... : https://youtu.be/GoDd0rSpyZ4
Greg Kihn, Rock Singer Behind 'Jeopardy' and 'The Breakup Song,' Dies at 75
Greg Kihn, a rock musician best known for hit songs "Jeopardy" and "The Breakup Song" has died at age 75.
Kihn died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, after battling Alzheimer's disease, according to a eulogy posted to his website.
"Known for his magnetic stage presence and unique storytelling that captivated audiences around the globe," the statement continued. "He was not merely a musician but a cultural phenomenon whose influence will resonate for generations to come."
Kihn was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 10, 1949 and discovered his love for music early in life. He moved to San Francisco in the early 1970s and formed the Greg Kihn Band, which went on to release five albums.
When the band released "The Breakup Song," it reached No. 15 on the Hot 100 chart and landed the group slots opening for the Rolling Stones and Journey, according to Rolling Stone. Then, two years later, they released "Jeopardy" and that song peaked at No. 2.
