For me, Airplane, Naked Gun and Blazing Saddles stand alone. All other comedies are somewhere below them.

A friend of mine dragged me out one night for a screening of Airplane down on Sunset (at a neat little theater I didn't even know about). It was followed by a Q&A with Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. It was neat. The two things I remember were how nerdy (and self-aggrandizing) some of the folks asking questions were - and how they (Jim David and Jerry) described their early days in Hollywood. And also how they poured every joke they could think of into the film. RIP Jim Abrahams. You certainly left your mark.
